Village Circuit

Intended to give an introduction to the area this walk starts from the house at Casa Blanca Rural.

A short walk out through the edge of the village of Montichelvo and we descend into the countryside passing olive groves, crossing a barranca (stream) and head up along the foothills of the Penyes Albes.

The gradients on this walk are moderate hills, as opposed to any scrambling, and the surfaces are mostly tracks and caminos (lanes).

We pass groves of oranges and plums, a small bassa (reservoir) and carab trees. At the local font, Font de Ferri, we continue towards the neighbouring village of Ayelo de Rugat, another small settlement of Moorish origins. After wandering through its narrow streets we head north through the campo (countryside) and up, through more orange groves, to the hill above Montichelvo. There are superb views of the Penyes Albes mountains from here and the routes of some our other walks can be picked out in the distance.

A small diversion can be taken here to visit the Ermita above the village, before descending into Montichelvo and back to Casa Blanca Rural.
