Around the villageA gentle excursion to settle and to see something of the local area. About an hour to an hour and a half, mostly on roads, tracks and pathways, crossing streams. Passing through orange and olive groves and the neighbouring village of Ayelo De Rugat. Mostly gentle gradients with a couple of steep hills. A great way to familiarise yourself with the area.
Mountain refugeSteady and steep in places along a winding stony track to a refuge at about 500 metres above sea level, giving stunning views along the valley and to the sea and is an ideal stop for a packed lunch. Three hours there and back or, on to the picturesque and typically Spanish village of Terrateig before returning to Montichelvo in about four hours.
Moorish castleA bit of a scramble following a stream via fonts, rockpools and waterfalls then a welcome, fairly level, stroll to a Moorish ruined castle where breathtaking views of the Vall d'Albaida provide a perfect spot for a packed lunch or picnic. A scramble down the other side crossing streams by stepping stones and a track shared by the very shy wild boar brings you back to Montichelvo. Stunning views and well worth the effort!
Railway trackThis old track wends its way along the route of the River Serpis and provides perfect chances to capture that special shot.
